The A6M Zero fighter marked the beginning of a new era in naval aviation and was the first shipboard fighter capable of outperforming land-based aircraft. With its tight turning radius, it was an extremely deadly weapon in a dogfight, and was famous for its ability to outmanoeuvre all the U.S.'s early fighter aircraft. It flew throughout the 4 years of the Pacific War in every theatre the Japanese forces operated.
